Promo week

Open it from the menu (Promo week), or press G then O. Each chain has its own section. A promo is never compared across chains.

The promo week#

A promo week runs Wednesday to Tuesday, the week the supermarkets' catalogues run. At Dan Murphy's, BWS, Woolworths NZ, New World and PAK'nSAVE it runs Monday to Sunday, the day their promos change. Each chain shows the promo week of its latest data, and "data to" the last day we have.

New promos start on the Wednesday, and Wednesday's shelf is in Cannonball from Thursday morning.

Your promos#

Each of your products on promo at the chain, with:

• New this week, or On since the day it started. "Or earlier" means it was already on when our data for that chain starts.
• The cut and the price, such as "30% off · $1.87, was $2.69". Where the promo price differs between stores or price zones, the lowest is shown too.
• How many stores have it, of the stores we read this promo week.

The line at the top of each chain counts your promos this week and last week, and your rivals'. Where our data for a chain starts this promo week, nothing is compared with last week yet.

Did it reach the shelf?#

For a promo the chain runs itself, Cannonball checks the stores. Your rivals' promos get the same check.

• Where it runs. Coles sometimes runs a promo in some states only, such as "Runs in VIC, QLD and TAS. Not on promo in NSW."
• Without the promo price: stores where it runs that show the normal price.
• Out of stock 2+ days and Not ranged: stores where it runs that can't sell it. Checked at Coles, Woolworths NZ and Dan Murphy's, where we read stock and ranging at the stores.
• By state (By region in New Zealand) gives each state's or region's numbers.

At Woolworths, Liquorland and BWS only the promo price is checked. Other chains' promos aren't checked yet. At IGA each store picks its own specials, so a promo shows how many stores took it up, and See the stores that ranged it without the promo opens them on Stores.

A store only counts once we've read its price this promo week. A store last read before the week started still shows last week's price, so it's left out.

Rivals and what ended#

Rivals' promos, deepest first shows the promos of the rivals and store-brand products you watch, the biggest cut first. Ended since last week lists promos that were on last week or earlier this week and aren't now, with the cut they had.

Use it to#

1. On Thursday morning, open Promo week and check each of your new promos ran where you agreed it would.
2. Stores without the promo price, or out of stock during the promo, are lost sales: send the list to your account manager or your reps.
3. Check the rivals' cuts before your next buyer meeting, and plan your next promo against them.

Export#

Export gives Promo week (CSV): one row per product and chain, with the cut, prices, stores and the check's numbers. See Export.

What it can't tell you#

• When a promo will end. Chains don't publish it on the shelf.
• How much it sold. We read the shelf, not the till.
• At a chain whose stock or ranging we don't read at every store, whether the shelf was empty.
