Every number in Cannonball: what it means, where you see it, how fresh it is, and what it can't tell you.
Every number below is as of the page's "Checked" stamp. The exception is a chain the stamp names as behind. See Freshness.
Stores ranged#
What it means. How many stores carry the product, out of the stores whose ranging we read. On Home, a store counts once if it ranges any of your products.
Where you see it. Home, Products (Ranged), the product page, What changed.
What it can't tell you. Why a store doesn't range a product. And it leaves out stores whose ranging we have no reading of: those are counted under Ranging not read, never as not ranged.
Ranging not read#
What it means. Stores that list the product but whose ranging we have no reading of. Shown as "ranging not read at 234 more" or "221 not read".
Where you see it. Products, the product page, Stores (Your products), Home (a line under the numbers).
What it can't tell you. Whether those stores range it. We say we don't know rather than guess. Most of these are Woolworths and ALDI stores. Where a chain's ranging isn't read at all, such as Chemist Warehouse, the product page says "Ranging isn't read at …" and lists say "Not read", instead of a count. See Chains and coverage.
In stock#
What it means. Of the stores carrying the product whose stock we read, the share with it on the shelf. Stores whose ranging we haven't read still count if we read their stock. On Home, it's across all your products: every product at every store we read counts once.
Where you see it. Home, Products, the product page (with "of 1,867 stores read"), What changed.
What it can't tell you. How much stock is on the shelf, or how fast it sells. Low stock counts as in stock here; the store page shows it as Low stock.
Partial#
When stock was read at fewer than half of the stores carrying a product, In stock is greyed out with "Partial: stock read at 400 of the 900 stores carrying it". The share is real for the stores read, but may not hold for the rest. Some chains' stock isn't read at all: IGA, and from 10 October New World, PAK'nSAVE, Chemist Warehouse and Mitre 10 NZ. There, In stock shows "—" rather than a number (on Home, with "Not read at IGA" under it when none of your chains reads stock), and their stores are never counted as out of stock. At ALDI, stock is read for Special Buys only. See Chains and coverage.
Out of stock 2+ days#
What it means. The store carries the product and has been out of stock for two whole days or more. The first day it's out shows as "Today", so a store first out on Monday joins this list on Wednesday. Stores whose ranging we haven't read are included. The Stores list shows how many days ("14 days") and sorts the longest out first.
Why two days. A store at zero for one day is often a normal day's sell-through before a delivery. Two days or more is a gap worth acting on: 9 days out is a supply or ranging problem.
Where you see it. Stores (Out of stock 2+ days and the Out of stock column), alerts ("for 2+ days").
What it can't tell you. Why it's out: supply, an allocation, or a store issue. Days out count from the first day we have data, so a gap that began before then shows as shorter than it is.
Not ranged#
What it means. We read the store as not ranging the product, though its chain sells it.
Where you see it. Stores (Not ranged).
What it can't tell you. Whether the store ever had it. A store whose ranging we have no reading of is never counted as not ranged.
Rival carried, you're not#
What it means. The store ranges at least one rival product you watch, and none of your products. A store where we haven't read your ranging is left out. The Rival only column says how many rival products it ranges.
Where you see it. Stores (Rival carried, you're not).
What it can't tell you. Anything about rivals you don't watch. Add them as rivals to include them. See Add products.
Median shelf price#
What it means. The middle shelf price across the stores that sell the product: half the stores charge this or less, half this or more. It's the latest shelf price, so during a promo it's the promo price. A chain with one price at every store, such as Chemist Warehouse, says "Same price at every … store". One priced by state, such as Liquorland, says "… prices by state".
Where you see it. Products (Price), the product page, the price chart (one line per chain), What changed (Median price).
What it can't tell you. How much prices vary from store to store or state to state. For that, see a product's price at each store. See Find where your price is out of line by state.
Stores on promo#
What it means. Stores where the product is on promotion now. On Home, stores where at least one of your products is.
Where you see it. Home, Products (On promo), the product page, Stores (On promo), What changed.
What it can't tell you. Whether shoppers noticed it. And everyday-price badges, such as Coles "Everyday" or ALDI "Lower prices", aren't promotions here. Bunnings promotions aren't read, so there it shows "Not read at Bunnings" rather than a count.
Promo depth#
What it means. How far below its usual price the product is on promotion. In a change, it's in the change's own words, when the change carries both prices: "went on promo at Woolworths: $4.50 → $3.00 (−33%)". On the store page, it's measured against the shelf's "was" price, rounded to a whole percent.
Where you see it. Home, What changed, the product page (On promo now), the store page, and the by-product CSV. On the product page, it's the typical depth across that chain's stores on promo.
Prices in New Zealand#
Prices at New Zealand chains are in New Zealand dollars and read "NZ$". The app never adds or averages Australian and New Zealand prices together.
Unit price#
The app shows shelf prices per pack. It doesn't yet show unit prices ($/kg or $/L), so when you compare products of different sizes, allow for the pack size.
