Emails we send
Every email Cannonball can send you: what triggers it, who gets it, what's in it, and how to stop it.
Cannonball sends few emails, and only when something happened or you asked for one. The one regular email is the weekly Shelf Brief on Mondays, and only in a week with something to say. There's no daily digest. Every email is plain text.

Sign-in link#
When. You enter your email on the sign-in or sign-up page.
What's in it. "Your Cannonball sign-in link". The link works once, for 15 minutes, and opens a page where you click Sign in. While Cannonball is in its closed beta, only an invited address gets one. See Sign-in.
Invitation#
When. Someone on your brand's team invites you from Settings, or sends you a product before you're on the team.
What's in it. "Join … on Cannonball", or "… shared … with you" for a product: who invited you, and a link that signs you in and joins you in one click, no password. The invitation lasts 14 days. A reply goes to the person who invited you. See Invite a colleague.
A product sent to you#
When. A colleague already on your team clicks Send to a colleague on a product.
What's in it. "… shared … with you", and a link to the product. A reply goes to them. See Send to a colleague.
Ask to join#
The request. When someone signs up with your company's email domain and clicks Ask to join on your brand, each owner and admin gets one email: "… asked to join … on Cannonball", with a link to Settings, Team. A reply goes to the person asking. Nobody joins until an owner or admin approves.
The answer. If an owner or admin approves, the person who asked gets "You're in: … on Cannonball", with a link to the app. Declining sends nothing. See Ask to join.
Weekly Shelf Brief#
When. Monday from 7am in your brand's time: Sydney time for an Australian brand, Auckland time for a New Zealand one. Only in a week with at least one finding worth your attention; a quiet week sends nothing. It's never sent later in the week.
Who. Everyone on your brand's team, from the day they join, unless they turn it off. People from an agency that manages your brand don't get it unless they turn it on. A Paused account gets none.
What's in it. The same findings Home shows under This week, in the same order: the 3 to 5 things worth your attention, ranked by stores × days at risk, each one sentence with a link to the stores, changes or product behind it, then a link to Home. The subject reads like "Sunday Pantry: 3 things on your shelf this week". For a white-labelled brand it comes in the agency's name, with links to its address.
To stop it. Click the unsubscribe link at the end of the email (or your mail app's unsubscribe button): it stops for you at that brand only, at once. Or use Settings, Emails, where Turn on brings it back. Stopping it doesn't stop your alerts, sign-in links or invitations.
Alerts#
When. A rule you set fires. Rules are checked as new data arrives, and fire once when they cross their line, not every day after. What fires overnight comes in one email at 7:00 (Sydney time, or New Zealand time if all your own products are at New Zealand chains). Something that fires later in the day comes within the hour. Nothing is sent between 9 pm and 7 am. Alerts are off until you set one.
Who. Only the person who set the rule. Your colleagues' rules don't email you.
What's in it. Everything that fired for you since your last alert email: your products first, then rivals. Each line names the product and chain and says what happened, such as "is out of stock at 34 stores for 2+ days" or "had its price cut 15%, $6.00 to $5.10", with a link to the product. A rule that fired for more than six products at one chain lists five and links to the rest. With one alert, the subject is the product and what happened; with more, it's the first of them and "and 3 more alerts". The email ends with a link to change or turn them off.
To stop it. Remove the rule on the Alerts page, or from the product's alerts button (it reads Alert me until a rule is set). You can remove your own rules, and an owner or admin can remove anyone's. Unsubscribing from trial emails doesn't stop alerts. See Alerts.
A nudge to choose a plan#
When. During the trial, or while the account is Paused, a member sees who chooses the plan and a button to nudge them, such as "Nudge Alex". Clicking it sends one email. Each member can nudge once a day.
Who. The brand's first owner, or its first admin if there's no owner.
What's in it. "… would like to keep Cannonball for …" (or "… would like Cannonball back for …" once Paused), and a link to the plans. A reply goes to the member who nudged.
Trial emails#
A brand that starts its own 14-day trial gets at most 7 short emails from Willem, Cannonball's founder, each sent once. Most have one number from your own shelf, and each has at most one link. Replies go to Willem.
| When | What's in it | |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome | The first 2 days. | The products you watch and where, and your product out of stock at the most stores, with a link to them. |
| One number | Days 1 to 3, if you haven't opened one of your own products yet. | How many stores your products are out of stock at, for 2+ days, with a link to that list. |
| "Get told when it happens" | Days 3 to 5, if your team has set no alerts. | A link that sets your first alert in one click. |
| "Your first week" | Days 7 to 9. | Stores out of stock now, rival promos started this week, and ranging warnings (dropped from stores, or clearance pricing). Also when your trial ends, and the plan that fits. |
| "Your trial ends …" | The last 3 days of the trial. | The plan that fits your products, and the founding offer. |
| "Your Cannonball account is paused (nothing is deleted)" | The first 3 days after the trial ends without a plan. | What's kept, and a link to choose a plan. |
| "What changed on …'s shelf since you paused" | From day 30, while Paused, if you haven't taken the extra days. | This week's changes on your shelf, and the offer to restart for 7 days, once. |
| "Should I close this?" | Day 60, while still Paused. | A question: close the account, or keep it Paused. |
How they work:
- Only the brand's owner gets them. Brands we set up for you, and an agency's client brands, don't.
- They depend on what you've done. The day-3 email doesn't come if your team already set an alert. Once your plan is paid, the ones about the trial ending and being Paused don't come. If you've chosen a plan but it isn't paid yet, the one about the trial ending can still arrive.
- Never late. An email whose days have passed isn't sent afterwards.
- The counts are the app's. "Out of stock at N stores" counts stores out for 2+ days, the same list its link opens. The week's counts include every change in the week.
To stop them. Every trial email ends with an unsubscribe link. It opens a page with an Unsubscribe button: opening the link alone changes nothing. Your mail app's own unsubscribe button works too. It stops trial emails to that address. Sign-in links, and any alerts you set yourself, still arrive.
Deletion notice#
When. An account is closed: its plan is cancelled, or a person has been removed from the last brand they were in. A closed account's information is deleted within 90 days. A Paused trial isn't closed.
Who. For a brand, its owners (its admins, if it has no owner). For a person, that person.
What's in it. "Your Cannonball data will be deleted on …": what will be deleted, the day (at least 7 days ahead), and a link to sign in. Signing in before then keeps it. Replies go to privacy@cannonballdata.com. It comes whether or not you unsubscribed from trial emails, because it's about your account. See Have it deleted.
No daily digest#
Cannonball doesn't send a daily summary of your shelf. Once a week, the weekly Shelf Brief sends Home's few findings, and only in a week that has one; one click stops it. Home shows what changed when you open it, and alerts tell you when something you chose happens. See Why Home is quiet.
Who our emails come from#
| From | Replies go to | |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in links, alerts, the weekly Shelf Brief, request approved | Cannonball <login@cannonballdata.com> | support@cannonballdata.com |
| Invitations, products sent to you, requests to join, nudges | Cannonball <login@cannonballdata.com> | The person who sent it |
| Trial emails | Willem at Cannonball <willem@cannonballdata.com> | willem@cannonballdata.com |
| Deletion notices | Cannonball <login@cannonballdata.com> | privacy@cannonballdata.com |
If your company holds back email from new senders, ask IT to allow login@cannonballdata.com.
On an agency's white label, a client brand's sign-in links, invitations, alerts and join emails come in the agency's name. Replies go to the agency's support email, if it has set one; a request to join still replies to the person asking. See Agency workspace.
Invoices#
When an owner or admin chooses a plan, we email an invoice within one business day. That one comes from us directly, not from the app. See Billing.
