    Glossary

Every word Cannonball uses with a special meaning, defined the way the app uses it.

Each term links to the page that explains more.

    Chain#

A retailer, such as Coles or IGA, with its own stores, prices and range. The app keeps chains apart and never averages a price across them. See Chains and coverage.

    Freshness stamp#

The stamp next to a page's title, such as "Checked today 06:10": when that page's numbers were last brought up to date. Amber means a check was missed. See Freshness.

    High priority#

Coming soon. High priority will mark a possible delisting: a clearance-level price drop and stores dropping the product in the same week. See Labels and markers.

    History#

How far back your plan lets you look: charts, past-day store lists and What changed. Earlier days are kept and open on a plan with more history. See History.

    In stock#

A store that ranges the product has it on the shelf. As a number, In stock is the share of stores with it on the shelf, out of the stores whose stock we read. Low stock counts as in stock. See In stock.

    Inferred#

A value we didn't read directly, but can stand behind, marked inferred. On a total, more than half of the stores behind it weren't read directly. Coles, Woolworths and ALDI prices come from each chain's price zones and aren't marked; the page says so once. See Observed and inferred numbers.

    Low stock#

Low stock: ranged, with only a few left. A flag, not a count. Shown on a store page. See Store page.

    Median shelf price#

The middle shelf price across the stores that sell the product: half charge this or less, half this or more. See Median shelf price.

    My stores#

Your own list of stores, up to 500, across every chain. Each person keeps their own. See My stores.

    National, state or one store#

Where a change happened. National: most of a chain's stores moved the same day. A state or region, such as "WA only": only those moved. A store's name: one store moved on its own. See Scope.

    Not loaded yet#

Not loaded yet: you've added the product, but we haven't read it yet. See Troubleshooting.

    Not ranged#

Not ranged: we read the store as not carrying the product, though its chain sells it. A store whose ranging we have no reading of is never counted as not ranged. See Not ranged.

    Not read#

The chain or store doesn't give us that number, so the app says "Not read" or shows "—", never zero. Those stores are left out of that number's totals and alerts. See Chains and coverage.

    Observed#

Read directly. Most numbers are, and carry no marker. See Observed and inferred numbers.

    Out of stock#

Out of stock: the store ranges the product and has none on the shelf. Its first day out shows as "Today". See Store page.

    Out of stock 2+ days#

Out of stock 2+ days: out of stock for two whole days or more. The line between a gap worth acting on and a normal day's sell-through. Alerts count stores this way. See Out of stock 2+ days.

    Owner, admin and member#

The three roles on a team. A Member uses every page and invites colleagues. An Admin also manages the team, answers requests to join and chooses the plan. An Owner can do all of that and remove another owner. See Roles.

    Paused#

Paused: a trial that ended without a plan. Nothing is deleted. Home shows counts only, and detail is locked until a plan is paid. See Trial and Paused.

    Price by state#

A chain that sets one price for each state, such as Liquorland from 10 October. The app says "… prices by state" instead of a median across stores. See Median shelf price.

    Promo#

On promo: the product is on promotion at a store now. Everyday-price badges, such as Coles "Everyday", and member-only offers aren't counted as promotions. See Stores on promo.

    Promo depth#

How far below its usual price a product is on promotion, such as −33%. See Promo depth.

    Range cluster#

A group of Coles stores that Coles ranges a category by. On Growth and up. See Range clusters at Coles.

    Range gap#

A store, or a range cluster, where a rival you watch is ranged and you aren't. On Stores, that's Rival carried, you're not. In range clusters, Range gap marks a cluster where the rival is at 80% or more of stores and you're under 20%. See Rival carried, you're not.

    Ranged#

The store carries the product at all. A store that doesn't range it isn't out of stock: it doesn't carry it. See Ranged and in stock.

    Ranging not read#

Stores that list the product, but whose ranging we have no reading of, such as "ranging not read at 234 more". Counted apart, never as not ranged. See Ranging not read.

    Retailer group#

Chains sold together, such as AU supermarkets. Every plan includes one group, with every store in it, and you can add more. See Retailer groups.

    Rival#

Rival: another brand's product you compare against. Your plan sets how many you can watch. See Key ideas.

    Same price at every store#

A chain with one price at every store, such as Chemist Warehouse from 10 October. The app says "Same price at every … store" instead of a median. See Median shelf price.

    Seat#

A place on your team. Each person and each open invitation uses one. People from your agency don't use yours. See Seats.

    Shelf price#

The price on the shelf at one store, per pack. During a promotion, it's the promo price. The app doesn't show unit prices yet. See Metrics.

    Stale#

The app doesn't mark a single number as stale. When a check is late, the page's "Checked" stamp turns amber, once for the page. See Freshness.

    Store brand#

Store brand: the retailer's own label in your category. See Key ideas.

    Territory#

The postcodes a rep covers, as postcodes and ranges, such as "2000-2234, 2500". It narrows Stores, its map and its CSV. See My stores, territory and map.

    Trial#

14 days of Growth for a new brand, with every retailer group and no card, once Cannonball opens to everyone. There's no trial during the closed beta: brands in it use Cannonball free. See Trial and Paused.

    Unknown#

unknown, or "—": we have no reading we can stand behind, so we show nothing rather than a guess. See Labels and markers.

    Was price#

The usual price a shelf shows next to a promotion. On a store page, promo depth is measured against it. See Promo depth.

    Yours#

Yours: a product your brand makes. Your plan's product limit counts these. See Key ideas.
