Accessibility statement

Cannonball should work for everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or other assistive technology.

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across this website and the Cannonball app. We see this as part of our obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth), and as simply the right way to build software.

What we’ve done on this website

  • Text and controls meet WCAG AA colour contrast in both the light and dark themes.
  • Everything works with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus outline and a “Skip to content” link.
  • Pages use proper headings and landmarks, so screen reader users can move around quickly.
  • The map and the drawn app screens have text descriptions. The map is an illustration; the app screens show real shelf data and say the day it was read.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, animations are replaced with still images. The looping map animation has a pause button either way, and the other animations play once.
  • Buttons and links are large enough to tap comfortably, and the site works from small phones to large screens and at 200% zoom.
  • The site works without JavaScript for all of its content.
  • We test with automated checks (axe and Lighthouse) and by hand with a keyboard.

Known limitations

  • The drawn app screens on the home page are illustrations, so their contents are hidden from screen readers and summarised in a description instead.
  • Charts in the app will come with a table view and CSV export, so the numbers are always available as text.

Tell us the page, what you were trying to do and, if you like, the assistive technology you use. We aim to reply within five business days, and if we can’t fix it quickly we’ll help you get the information another way.
